New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said “it became very clear to me that there was no one more qualified in all of New York City to play this role than Zach Carter.” No, he’s not talking about his new job as mayor for America’s biggest city, but its corporation counsel, a post he recently assigned to Carter. (The corporation counsel’s role is comparable to a company’s general counsel.)
Carter is currently cochair of Dorsey & Whitney’s white-collar crime and civil fraud practice. According to his firm profile, this won’t be Carter’s first foray into public service. He served as a federal attorney in Brooklyn who prosecuted several high profile cases of national significance, such as the civil rights case of New York City police officers for the torture of the Haitian immigrant Abner Louima.
