Representing the direct purchasers in a sprawling price-fixing case, antitrust lawyers at Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein wrung nearly half a billion dollars in settlements out of the world’s leading manufacturers of LCD panels.

The civil suit steered by Lieff Cabraser sprung from a U.S. Department of Justice investigation that found some of the world’s largest electronics companies had colluded to fix prices for Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Displays, or TFT-LCD screens, which are used in televisions, laptops, mobile phones and other popular electronics. Although most of the defendants had already pleaded guilty in the criminal case, Lieff Cabraser broadened the accusations to include more products, a longer period of time and a wider swath of customers. Lawyers at Lieff Cabraser engaged in four years of discovery to make their case, traveling to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan for depositions and sifting through documents in four languages.
