SAN FRANCISCO — Refusing to halt the march toward an appeal, U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh has denied Samsung Electronics Co.’s request to stay its patent brawl with Apple Inc..

Shortly before jurors awarded Apple more than $290 million for patent infringement last week, Samsung asked Koh to stall the parties’ closely watched rematch on damages in light of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s rejection of a key Apple patent. The South Korean company warned in an emergency motion filed last week that the PTO’s decision cast doubt on the jury’s deliberations and could make post-trial motions a waste of time. But after two trials and nine rulings on post-trial motions, the case is too far along to be stopped now, Koh wrote in an order issued Monday evening.
