New York Lawyers for the Public Interest and the Federal Bar Council hosted a panel Tuesday at the Southern District of New York courthouse at 500 Pearl St. for lawyers interested in switching to careers in public service.

More than 50 attendees heard from lawyers in city, state and federal government who made the transition from the private to public sector. Their advice covered leveraging existing networks to learn of job openings, framing one’s big firm experience for a public interest job application, and navigating hiring freezes and the federal sequestration that make government agencies slow to fill openings.
