A private right of action should be established to give the victims of human trafficking recourse in civil court against those exploiting them, a New York State Bar Association committee has recommended.
The special committee on human trafficking said 29 other states and the District of Columbia have established such civil rights of action as a way to undercut the profit margin to traffickers and allow victims to seek compensation.
