Delaware legal sources say that state Supreme Court Justices Carolyn Berger and Jack B. Jacobs are expected to apply for the chief justice opening created by the retirement of current Chief Justice Myron T. Steele, but Justices Randy J. Holland and Henry duPont Ridgely, both considered early favorites to apply, are seen as unlikely to seek the position.

Jacobs and Ridgely did not return calls seeking comment. Holland is traveling in Taiwan and did not respond to an email request for comment. Berger also did not return a request for comment, but confirmed her interest in the position in a September statement to Delaware Law Weekly.
