King & Wood Mallesons Adds Melbourne Tax Partner

King & Wood Mallesons is adding a tax partner in Melbourne.

Michael Perez, currently a partner at Allens, is expected to join King & Wood Mallesons in January.

Perez has advised clients such as Rio Tinto Plc., BHP Billiton Ltd., Ford Motor Co., and Royal Dutch Shell Plc., on tax issues in mergers and acquisitions, financings, and reorganizations.

He has spent his entire career with Allens, starting as an articled clerk in 1990 and becoming a partner eight years later.

King & Wood Mallesons’ Melbourn office now has 186 lawyers, including 44 partners. The firm, whose tie-up with the U.K.’s SJ Berwin became official on Nov. 1, now employs 2,700 lawyers in Asia, Australia, and Europe.
