Since its inception in 1988, Susan Butler Plum has guided the Skadden Fellowship Foundation at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, a program that supports academically outstanding law school graduates and judicial clerks who wish to devote their professional lives to providing legal assistance to the poor, the elderly, the homeless, the disabled and those deprived of civil or human rights.

The fellows create their own programs at public interest organizations throughout the country. The foundation matches the salaries and benefits of the service providers, and in some cases, assists in paying law school debt.
