SACRAMENTO — Despite a plea for change from Silicon Valley, California has been content to leave the fight over patent law to the feds. But one group of state lawmakers appears ready to at least dip a political toe into the white-hot patent debate.

The Assembly Select Committee on High Technology has scheduled what it is calling an informational hearing on patent assertion entities, more derisively known as patent trolls. The three-hour gathering will be held Oct. 30 at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View.
