White & Case Opens Second Kazakhstan Office
White & Case has opened a second office in Kazakhstan.
The new office is located in the capital city of Astana and will be home to seven lawyers, including three partners. The firm said it plans to boost that number to nine by the end of year.
Astana has been the capital of Kazakhstan since 1997 when it took that mantle from the southern city of Almaty, where White & Case has had an office for 18 years. The Almaty office currently has 10 lawyers, including two partners.
The firm advises foreign investors on a number of transactions in the country, including those in oil and gas, minerals, and real estate. Maxim Telemtayev, executive partner of the two offices, in a statement said the new office was necessary because Astana’s prominence as a business center has grown since taking over as capital from Almaty.
Telemtayev will split his time between the Almaty and Astana offices. Banking partner Pavel Kornilov and energy and resources partner Arman Tastanbekov will also be based in Astana.
White & Case employs 1,900 lawyers in 40 offices worldwide.
