Alliant Techsystems, the world’s largest ammunition maker and a top aerospace and defense contractor, announced Thursday it would acquire sports eyewear company Bushnell Group Holdings for $985 million in cash.

Overland Park, Kansas–based Bushnell, which has roughly 1,100 employees and is owned by private equity firm MidOcean Partners, is a leading manufacturer and distributor of optics like binoculars and other outdoor accessories, some of which include the eye-sights and telescopic lenses used for high-powered rifles.
