Less than a week after Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom took the lead on two big French M&A deals, the firm is reaping the benefits from some cross-border transactional action north of the border.

Skadden, which saw its attorney head count slip for the fourth straight year in 2012, is counseling The Travelers Companies on its $1.1 billion cash purchase of the Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company from Toronto-based E-L Financial. Announced Monday, Reuters reports that the deal will combine Dominion Insurance’s commercial and personal insurance portfolios with the U.S. insurance giant’s current Canadian operations.
