In a merger that combines two top companies in the rapidly growing field of genetic sequencing and testing, a team of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr lawyers are advising Waltham, Massachusetts–based health care and laboratory equipment maker Thermo Fisher Scientific on its $13.6 billion acquisition of Life Technologies Corp. Once debt is included, the total deal value approaches $15.8 billion.

David Redlick, cochair of Wilmer’s life sciences group, is leading a Boston–based team advising Thermo Fisher that also includes bankruptcy and restructuring practice chair John Sigel, M&A cochair Hal Leibowitz, corporate partner Erika Robinson, and commercial finance counsel Kathryn Bennett. None of the Wilmer lawyers working on the deal immediately responded to requests for comment. Like many Am Law 100 firms, Wilmer’s Boston office was closed Monday in observance of Patriots’ Day.
