GARY GRINDLER, the former acting deputy attorney general at the U.S. Department of Justice and chief of staff to Attorney General Eric Holder Jr., has returned to King & Spalding after four years in the government. Grindler joins as a partner in the special matters and government investigations practice, based in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.

Grindler last worked as a partner at King & Spalding from 2000 to 2009, when he left for Justice. As acting attorney general, Grindler supervised law enforcement agencies within the department such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration, as well as 94 U.S. attorney’s offices, and the civil, criminal, tax, antitrust, and environmental divisions of Justice.
