The Churn: Lateral Moves and Promotions in the Am Law 200

Real estate attorney ROSS EICHBERG has left Nixon Peabody to join Ballard Spahr in Washington, D.C. The new of counsel represents developers, owners, lenders, and investors in a wide range of real estate matters. Also joining Ballard Spahr is of counsel ANASTASIA KHOKHRYAKOVA in the firm’s Denver office. The new attorney, previously with Hogan Lovells, will work with the public defense practice team and focus on public and project finance matters.

Chadbourne & Parke has hired MARGARITA OLIVA SAINZ DE AJA to join its Latin America practice group. The banking and finance lawyer will divide her time between Chadbourne’s New York, Mexico City, and São Paulo offices, working on advising lenders and borrowers on a wide range of corporate finance transactions as a partner. She was last a senior counsel at Allen & Overy.

WILLIAM STURMAN is the latest partner to join Covington & Burling’s corporate practice. Previously a private equity fund partner with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, Sturman will be based in Covington’s New York arm and advise private equity fund managers on regulatory issues.

Intellectual property lawyer ANDREW RIDDLES has joined Day Pitney as a partner from Crowell & Moring, where he was also a partner. Riddles will share his time between the firm’s Connecticut and New York offices.

Boutique environmental law firm Edgcomb Law Group has snatched two longtime Bingham McCutchen litigation attorneys: TIFFANY HEDGPETH and NANCY WILMS. Joining as partners, Hedgpeth and Wilms will be launching Edgcomb’s first Southern California office in Burbank.

ALETHIA NANCOO has left Hogan Lovells, where she was a partner, to practice with Edwards Wildman Palmer in the firm’s public finance department. Joining the Washington, D.C., office as a partner, Nancoo will focus on public and project-debt financing.

NORMAN TABLER JR. has made a return to former law firm Faegre Baker Daniels, where he first became an associate in 1971 after graduating from law school. Tabler went on to Indiana University Health 25 years later, serving as senior vice president and general counsel until retiring at the end of 2012. He is now counsel at Faegre Baker in the health care group.

BRYNN PELTZ has joined Goodwin Procter’s financial institutions group in New York as a partner. Prior to her move, Peltz was a partner with Latham & Watkins in the firm’s financial regulatory and investment funds practices.

Greenberg Traurig has bolstered its intellectual practice with new partner WILLIAM COATS in the firm’s Silicon Valley office. Joining as a shareholder, Coats was previously a partner with Kaye Scholer. CAROLYN MCNIVEN has also joined Greenberg Traurig. A shareholder in the firm’s San Francisco office, McNiven has a litigation practice with a focus on white-collar defense matters. She joins from DLA Piper.

Chadbourne & Parke’s insurance and reinsurance practice group cofounder and cohead JOHN SARCHIO has left the firm to join Holland & Knight. Sarchio will chair his new firm’s insurance industry practice, working on insurance regulatory, transactional, and reinsurance-related matters. He brings a partner with him, RICHARD LISKOV, who specializes in insurance regulatory, transactional, and litigation issues.

Hunton & Williams continues the expansion of its environmental law group with the return of former attorney SCOTT STONE in its Washington, D.C., office. Stone was most recently the director of global environmental initiatives with Sierra Nevada Corporation, a provider of high technology electronics and services.

There were a number of new hires for Jones Day this week. ALBERTO DE LA PARRA, the former general counsel for Grupo Mexico, one of the largest mining, railroad, and infrastructure companies in Mexico, has joined the firm as a partner. De la Parra will work in the banking and finance practice in Mexico City. Jones Day has also announced the hire of three new partners, all previously with White & Case, in its banking and finance practice in Germany. ANNICA LINDEGREN, former cohead of the bank finance practice at White & Case, and NICK WITTEK will be based in the Frankfurt office, while ULF KREPPEL, who led his former firm’s structured finance practice since 2003, is joining the Munich office.

Kirkland & Ellis’s Hong Kong office is winning back a partner, snatched from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. As reported in sibling publication Asian Lawyer, FRANK SUN is returning to Kirkland’s mergers and acquisitions group, where he will advise clients in China and across Asia.

MARK LEEDS, a capital markets tax attorney, has lateraled to Mayer Brown’s tax transactions and consulting practice from Greenberg Traurig, where he was a shareholder. Leeds, based in New York, will advise clients on capital markets products and strategies.

McKenna Long & Aldridge has welcomed a new partner in its public finance group. RICHARD SIGAL, formerly a partner with Hawkins Delafield & Wood in Connecticut, helps draft finance legislation. He will work from the firm’s New York office.

Sibling publication New York Law Journal reports that DOUGLASS MAYNARD has become the latest New York City Police Department counsel, after years in private practice with Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld. Maynard was a partner at Akin, and focused his work on white-collar defense and commercial litigation.

Labor and employment law firm Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart has opened its fourth office in less than a year. SPENCER SKEEN, formerly a partner with Fisher & Phillips, has joined the firm to serve as the founding and managing shareholder of the new San Diego office. The Am Law Daily covered the opening earlier this week.

JEFFREY LEGAULT has joined the corporate and securities practice in Reed Smith’s New York office as a partner. Legault was last with Goodwin Procter, where he was a partner in the private equity group specializing in mergers and acquisitions and joint venture transactions.

Employment litigator STEVEN CATLETT has moved to Schiff Hardin from Sidley Austin. Catlett’s practice focuses on wage-and-hour class and collective action litigation. He joins as a partner in the firm’s Chicago office.

JEFFREY CUNNINGHAM has returned to his former firm, Seyfarth Shaw, from Foltz Martin, where he led the corporate practice as a partner. Cunningham had previously been with Seyfarth between 2000 and 2008 and is rejoining as a partner in the firm’s corporate department based in Atlanta.

Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton has welcomed new intellectual property partner LAURA BURSON, formerly a partner with Kirkland & Ellis. Burson will be residing in the firm’s Los Angeles branch.
