Kirkland & Ellis has recruited a partner for its Hong Kong mergers and acquisitions practice.

Frank Sun is rejoining the firm from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, where he was an associate in Hong Kong for two years. In addition to M&A work, Sun specializes in private equity deals in China and the rest of Asia. He also advises on debt capital markets transactions.

Sun was part of the Paul, Weiss team that advised Silicon Valley private equity company Silver Lake Partners and Singapore sovereign wealth fund Temasek Holdings (Private) Ltd. on their increased investments in Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. in 2011.

He also has advised clients such as Carlyle Group, Kohlberg Kravis & Roberts, Morgan Stanley Private Equity Asia, and Citic Capital Partners in the past.

Prior to joining Paul, Weiss, Sun was an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom in Hong Kong between 2008 and 2011. He worked for the former Herbert Smith in London and Beijing, starting in 2004, before moving to Kirkland’s New York office three years later.

With the addition of Sun, Kirkland & Ellis now has 39 lawyers, including 20 partners, based in Hong Kong. Kirkland employs over 1,400 lawyers worldwide.
