RedPrairie Corporation—the business software maker whose board of directors includes former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty—said Thursday that it has agreed to pay $1.9 billion in cash to acquire rival JDA Software Group, Inc.

The deal combines two companies that specialize in software used by companies to manage supply chains that connect manufacturers, wholesalers, and distributors. The agreement calls for RedPrairie to pay $45 in cash for each JDA share. JDA’s board of directors has approved the sale, which is expected to close by the end of the year, pending the approval of regulators and JDA’s shareholders.
