Who was Juror Number One, really? Theresa Trzaskoma of New York’s Brune & Richard was puzzled. Trzaskoma was representing accountant David Parse in a high-profile 2011 trial over an alleged conspiracy to defraud the Internal Revenue Service. The juror, a middle-aged woman, had described herself during voir dire as a housewife with a bachelor’s degree. But when a Brune & Richard paralegal did some Internet research into the juror’s background as jury deliberations began, he came across a suspended lawyer with the same name who was linked to the same hometown.

“Jesus, I do think it’s her,” Trzaskoma emailed the paralegal back on May 12, 2011, when she saw the results of his search.
