Year in and year out, which firms consistently perform well on our midlevel survey? To answer that question, we averaged firms’ overall scores on our national rankings for 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. The list below ranks firms on the basis of that five-year average.

Each year’s overall score was based on grades that respondents gave their firms in 12 areas [see "The Best Places to Work"]. Respondents graded their firms on a 1-to-5 scale, with 5 the highest score, and 1 the lowest. Only firms that had at least 10 responses firmwide were eligible for the national rankings in any given year, and only firms that appeared on the national charts in each of the five years were eligible for our five-year ranking.
