Mergers Down in Second Quarter, But Still Up Overall Compared to Last Year

While Altman Weil and the Hildebrandt Institute report that mergers involving U.S. law firms were down in the second quarter of 2012 compared to the same period last year, statistics show that the industry saw more tie-ups in the first half of this year than it did during the first six months of 2011.

    These mergers are a sign of the times in the legal profession. The legal sector is going through a time of turmoil, partly because of technology and partly because some parts of the industry have become redundant or obsolete.
