Dealmakers in the Spotlight
Jones Day has done lots of IP work for Texas Instruments, Incorporated, but no big M&A deals–until April, when the firm advised TI on its $6.5 billion purchase of National Semiconductor Corporation. Key to the firm’s new role was Dallas partner R. Scott Cohen, a recent arrival from Weil, Gotshal & Manges who had represented TI for over 20 years. With his new partner Mark Goglia, Cohen led Jones Day’s team on the deal. “I’ve only been there two months, so jumping into a deal of this size for the first time [at Jones Day], it was a total immersion experience to get to know my partners,” says Cohen.
