My goodness gracious. I had no idea that women were so sensitive! I mean, did you know that female job candidates run for the hills when they see words like “ambitious,” “analytical” and “competitive salary” in job descriptions?
According to Emily Peck at Huffington Post, employers should be mindful of sending “unintended messages” of bias in job listings. Peck reports:
Laura Mather, the chief executive of Unitive, a new startup that makes bias-check software for employers, said women and minorities might unconsciously see the term “the best of the best” as a signal that a company is looking for white males. “Competitive salary” might be problematic because women — who are less likely to negotiate — may take it as a signal that they’ll have to haggle over their pay.
