CHET THOMPSON, a former deputy general counsel at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and chair of Crowell & Moring’s environmental and natural resources practice in Washington, D.C., has been named president of the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers.
The board of the Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit announced that Thompson—a longtime outside legal adviser to the U.S. oil refiners’ lobby and trade group—would officially become head of the organization on May 4. Thompson will succeed the retiring Charles Drevna, who, according to the AFPM’s most recent federal tax filing, earned $871,218 in 2013. The document shows another $591,323 being paid to Sidley Austin, although a 2011 tax filing by the AFPM reveals $259,645 flowing into Crowell & Moring’s coffers. (U.S. Senate lobbying records show that Crowell & Moring received $50,000 from the organization in 2014 to handle Clean Air Act issues.)
