The merger between Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and Singapore’s Stamford Law Corp. announced last week marks the Philadelphia-based firm’s return to the Southeast Asian city state after closing its first office there 15 years ago. To many Singaporean law firms, the move also signals a new model for the internationalization of the city-state’s legal profession.

“This is the first time that a Singapore firm transforms fully into an international firm’s office in Singapore,” says Lee Eng Beng, Rajah & Tann Singapore managing partner. “It will be interesting to see how it works out.”
