Judges Reinstate Eviction of Woman Who Shortchanged Authority

Evicting a woman from her public housing apartment in New York City was not an excessive punishment for concealing income from the Housing Authority and thus paying lower rent than she should have for six years, the state Court of Appeals ruled yesterday.

Arent Fox to Open San Francisco Office

Responding to client demand, Arent Fox is preparing to launch in San Francisco, joining other firms that plan to set up shop there. The office will open with at least five lawyers based in the city full time, according to partner Robert O'Brien, who said, "We're not coming to San Francisco on the hope that we'll develop work there. We're coming because we already have work in San Francisco."

Jackson Lewis became the latest national labor and employment firm to launch in a new locale Wednesday when it announced the opening of an outpost in San Juan, its 51st office and first outside the continental U.S. Other firms touting new office openings include rival labor and employment shops Fisher & Phillips and Ogletree Deakins, as well as Am Law 200 fixtures like Arent Fox, Duane Morris, and Dykema Gossett.

The Special Committee on Human Trafficking, led by former State Bar President Bernice Leber of Arent Fox and Sandra Rivera of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips in Albany, will review a 2007 state law that criminalizes sex and labor trafficking.
