Who are the clients most likely to tap Dentons, now the world’s largest law firm by head count, as it unveils its vast new Asian platform? A look at recent legal advisory league tables gives a hint.

Worldwide, Dentons, without Dacheng, improved its position in the most recent third quarter M&A league tables, rising from 50th to 28th in mid-market deals, and from 38th to 22nd in small-cap deals, both by deal count. That shows that it’s steadily getting more transactional work, though mostly for smaller players. Similarly, the verein’s Chinese member, Dacheng, performed better in the first half in its stronghold in China, surging to seventh from 43rd by M&A deal count, although the Chinese deal size averaged $125 million, one-fourteenth the average of Baker & McKenzie’s $1.8 billion average deal size.
