The figures don’t include legal fees paid by teams and leagues such as the NBA and MLB, which aren’t nonprofits and whose records are private.
NFL: The league has paid at least $31 million to Covington and nearly $4 million to Proskauer Rose since 2011. Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, which handles the NFL’s labor and employment work, received at least $20.1 million during that time. The league paid another $16.4 million during its last two fiscal years to Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, which is representing the NFL in concussion litigation.
