United States v. Crédit Agricole
Facing alleged sanctions violations for doing business with entities in Sudan and other blacklisted countries, Crédit Agricole SA agreed in October to pay a $787 million fine to U.S. regulators. Critically for the bank, its lawyers at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, led by partners Keith Krakaur, Jamie Boucher and Ryan Junck, were able to negotiate a deferred prosecution agreement as part of the settlement, announced Oct. 20. That sets it apart from a much larger $8.9 billion fine and guilty plea last year by fellow French bank BNP Paribas SA.
