Recovering from a botched deal with AbbVie Inc. last year, Irish drugmaker Shire plc said Jan. 12 it would purchase Bedminster, N.J.-based NPS Pharmaceuticals Inc. for $5.2 billion. Davis Polk & Wardwell, along with Slaughter and May, is representing Shire in the transaction, while Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom is legal counsel to NPS.
