Microsoft Corporation pitches its new Surface Pro 3 as the tablet that can replace your laptop. And make no mistake, it’s certainly priced like one, with models ranging from $799 to just under $2,000 (and that’s not counting the $130 optional-but-not-
really-optional keyboard). Microsoft’s goal is ambitious, but perhaps also unnecessary. Like a lot of users, I’d settle for a tablet that could merely replace my tablet. Every device I’ve used, from the manpurse-friendly iPad Mini to the gargantuan Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, as well as earlier Surface incarnations, has had its pros and cons, great for some tasks, not so much for others. Somebody, you figure, will get the equation right eventually. So frankly, I didn’t care how Microsoft positioned its new tablet. I just wanted to be dazzled.
