Offshore firm Appleby has received a license to practice law in Shanghai.
The firm has had an office in the city since 2012 but offered only fiduciary services. Now it will be able to advise on offshore legal matters for its Chinese and foreign clients. The firm said the move was drive by the increased use of offshore vehicles in cross-border deals involving China.
