Rajah & Tann has recruited a 14-lawyer team from the Bangkok office of Hunton & Williams.

Surasak Vajasit, Melisa Uremovic and Pakpoom Suntornvipat will all join Singapore-based Rajah & Tann as partners. Of the three, only Vajasit was also a partner at Hunton & Williams, which he joined in 2005 when the Richmond, Va., firm took over the Bangkok office of now-defunct Coudert Brothers. Vajasit was also previously a partner in Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s local office, which closed in 2004.

There are also 11 associates making the move.

Vajasit’s practice focuses on project development and finance, though he also handles arbitration and capital markets deals. Uremovic advises companies on regulatory compliance, as well as trade agreements and customs issues. Suntornvipat is a litigation and arbitration specialist who focuses on insolvency and restructuring proceedings.

The departures leave the Bangkok office of Hunton & Williams with 23 lawyers, including five partners, according to the firm’s website. Office managing partner Edward Koehler could not immediately be reached for comment.

With the addition of these new lawyers, Rajah & Tann’s Bangkok office head count has doubled to 30 lawyers. Rajah & Tann also has offices in Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar, as well as alliances in Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia. The firm has about 480 lawyers in total.
