Firm Overview
Founded in 1919, Patterson Belknap is a law firm of nearly 200 lawyers committed to maintaining its independence, its diversity, and its focus of providing superior legal advice and service to clients. We make our clients' problems our own. At the same time, we care about our attorneys and our staff and the community we are privileged to serve. As a result of our performance and our values, the firm has earned a top-10 ranking on The American Lawyer's "A-List" of elite firms for each year since the list's inception.
Client Services
We believe that legal representation should be high quality, cost-effective, and marked by a concern for the client's broad objectives whether the business goals of a company, the social goals of a not-for-profit organization, or the personal and financial goals of an individual.
Pro Bono & Community Commitment
A dedication to public service is at the heart of Patterson Belknap's pro bono practice. In 2004, 100% of the firm's partners, counsel, associates and staff attorneys participated in pro bono projects, perhaps a first for a firm of our size. In 2003, The American Lawyer named us #1 in the nation (based on hours in 2002) and #1 among New York City firms for each year from 2000 through 2003 (based on hours from 1999 through 2002). In addition, we are gratified that MFY Legal Services, Inc. recently established a "Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler Fellowship" at MFY in honor of our pro bono contributions in New York City.
Diversity
Patterson Belknap is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to employing a diverse group of attorneys and staff. The firm is a signatory to the Association of the Bar of the City of New York's goals for minority recruitment, hiring and retention.
Recruitment
Patterson Belknap stands apart. We have one location in New York City on purpose. It allows us to share our knowledge and experience, creating a collaborative culture that benefits our clients, our attorneys and our staff.
