To chart the profitability of individual firms since the recession, we calculated five-year compound annual growth rates (CAGR) for each of the 186 firms that were on the Am Law 200 in every year since 2008. We then arranged each firm on a scatterchart in which the vertical axis represents the firm’s profits per partner in 2008, and the horizontal axis represents five-year growth in PPP less the average CAGR for the group. This chart identifies the firms that both had above-average PPP in 2008 and bettered their position over the past five years.
