Class Action Defense Specialist Joins Jones Day in Sydney

 

Jones Day has hired a new litigation partner for its Sydney Office.

John Emmerig was previously a partner and head of the Australian class action practice for Ashurst.
 

He has over 24 years experience defending shareholder, mass tort, and product liability lawsuits. He recently represented Lehman Brothers in a case brought by several Australian municipalities and other organizations that had invested in now-worthless Lehman securities. In September, Australia’s Federal Court awarded the plaintiffs over $200 million.
 

Emmerig joined Sydney-based Blake Dawson as an associate and became a partner in 1996. He left the firm earlier this year, after the firm announced its merger with Ashurst in September last year.
 

Including Emmerig, Jones Day has 25 lawyers in its Sydney office, which opened in 1998. The Cleveland-based firm has over 2,400 lawyers worldwide.
